Bummas Review and Giveaway!
Saturday, February 6, 2010 at 1:00PM I found Bummas just in time for the Great Diaper Change and I am so glad I did. If you have been reading along with our change you know that we are now a fulling cloth diapering household. Along with that comes cloth wipes and no more diaper rash creams.
Cora only got diaper rash when she was a few days old, I suspect because her new little body wasn't used to wearing diapers of any sort. They say that diaper rash with cloth diapers is very rare which is fantastic but remains to be seen based on our first hand experiences. Anyway, what are Bummas?
Bummas are 100% cotton terry velour wipes. You can use Bummas as regular cloth wipes but I reserve mine for an even better use. "After the wipe, before the dipe" as the ladies of Bummas say. The American Academy of Pediatrics says that after you wipe the baby you should then dry before rediapering. This creates a nice, dry area and reduces your risks of diaper rash since diaper rash can be caused by excessive moisture.
Now, I don't have a little boy but I have diapered them so I know all about the surprise pee that comes along with that. If you have a girl like mine, she also loves peeing with her diaper off, usually onto the clean diaper I am putting on, of course. Bummas are great for this! I have a stack of dry Bummas next to the changing table. I take a diaper off, I wipe, I dry and I leave the Bummas over her while I grab the new diaper to put it on. This way, if she pees again, she is covered quite literally. It sounds like more work but it isn't really.
For me, diapering has become a really nice time that Cora and I can have together. At first it was more of a chore but since switching to cloth diapers we have really come to enjoy the little routines we have created. We like to take our time and enjoy the process.
The Bummas come in white with fun colored edges. They are durable for sure, I have run them through the wash and they come out looking like new. I think they make a great addition to any nursery. When baby isn't in diapers any more they will still be useful for wiping face and hands, bath time, and even as teething cloths.
