Cloth Diaper Love

I realize I have not done a post about cloth diapers in much too long! I need to update all of you on how cloth diapering is going for us, what we use now, how our system has evolved. I'm always ready and willing to talk cloth diapering!

We started with certain brands that I heard were pretty good because really advice from other moms is my number one motive for trying something new when it comes to cloth diapering. That was the reason Ida and I started The Cloth Diaper Awards! In case you weren't following along during our Great Diaper Change event (when we made the switch to cloth diapering full time), this is what our starter stash consisted of. . .

1 BumGenius 3.0   ( This was the first pocket I bought and it's in a cute pink color. )

4 FuzziBunz Pockets Size Medium ...I probably should have gotten size small but Cora is in between on sizes and i figured a little bigger was better.

3 Haute Pocket one size pocket diapers

1 Monkey Doodlez Micro All In One Diaper

2 KissaLuvs Fitteds

1 LePetitOwlet custom made fitted (probably most excited about this one)

1 Pair of LePetitOwlet wool longies (probably my favorite item in Cora's closet)

2 Thirsties Duo Wraps

2 Bummis Super Whisper Wrap

This was a good starter stash for sure. We liked some of these diapers for a long time and some we still love. Some, we don't like so much at all. To be honest, most of these diapers have since been "cycled out" of our rotation. I think that is fairly normal practice for cloth diapering mamas. Some diapers get used too much, the elastic starts to stretch and the fit is no longer great. Some work great on a new baby but start leaking once you have a mobile babe. All of these things are just trial and error, everyone has to have trial and error periods when building your perfect stash!

I'm just going to be completely honest and let you know my actual thoughts, I don't want to write bad things about any company because of course my opinions might not be shared by all. I know plenty of families that love the diapers I don't.

We don't use the FuzziBunz any longer, I finally got them all clean and put them away (still can't bring myself to actually get rid of anything). The problem I had with the FuzziBunz was that the elastic in the legs stretched out leaving gaping around Cora's thighs. We had leaks all the time because of that. I'm sure I could replace the elastic but really, I like finding diapers that work well for us with little effort. So no more FB.

We loved the MonkeyDoodlez Micro all in one. To this day it is the best all in one diaper I have every used. Sadly the regular priced MD is a bit outside of what I will pay for a diaper.  I am always looking for deals on MD. I know that they sell seconds and have clearance items online, so I'm constantly on the hunt for Cora's size and colors I want.

The bumGenius 3.0 has since been discontinued but it is a great pocket diaper. You can still get some for your stash, since they were discontinued they are on sale at nearly every diaper retailer. We got a few more when they went on sale.  The 3.0 was replaced by the 4.0! Basically they are the same diaper, the one thing that I like about the 4.0 is that you can now get aplix or snap closure. When your child gets to be a certain age they learn how to undo the aplix closure and snaps become a must. We like the 4.0 even more then the 3.0, it's a good pocket diaper that holds up well over time and has a reasonable price.

We are testing a SustainableBabyish (SLOOMB) fitted diaper and wool longies. We love them but I don't want to say too much, there is a review coming!

I do not like Kissaluvs fitteds. They do not fit Coraline well at all, they aren't absorbent enough at all. They are still a part of my stash but as the last diapers we use, when I'm washing diapers maybe you will find her in a. I also find that I am one of the few people that don't care for these, they have a huge following. I really want to try some other Kissaluvs diapers, like the Marvel.

We fell in love with the fitted diaper, I never thought it would be my favorite system but it is easy to do. Because the fitted diaper is one huge absorbent soaker, they are great for overnight or going out. I also love that they are so easy to wash. No unstuffing, just throw them in the wash and they can go in the dryer without worrying about the PUL. Yes, they take longer to dry but it doesn't make much difference in my day or time. I picked up 2 Thirsties Fab Fitteds, they are totally Fab.

I still like the Thirsties Duo Wrap, it's a very reasonably priced cover and it works great. We have added to our stash with a Thirsties Duo Pocket which I really love as well. It has plenty of room to grow and the double gussets are fantastic. Because of Thirsties, I will only buy covers with double gussets.

The other cover that I really love is the Blueberry. It also has the double gussets that I love and it is very durable.I have used some covers that are made of a super thin PUL, Blueberry is definitely not one of those. I went outside my budget to get this cover, they are really pricey in my opinion, but I am totally glad I did it.

AppleCheeks diapers are another brand we added to our stash. They are great. They have snap closure, a unique pocket design and they wash really well. These fit Coraline great, with the size 2 she still has plenty of room to grow with them. Highly recommended, they are made in Canada and have a great price point.

It's been no secret that I fell in love with the GroVia diaper. I did a review/giveaway a while back and everything I said about the diapers holds true today. They fit well. They are super easy to use, I love not having to stuff and unstuff the diaper. We also have 3 of their all in one diaper, which is another super unique design, the soaker s are sewn it but in a way that they float out of the diaper. They are super easy to wash and dry!

BabyKicks Bumboo Pocket is an addition, we started with one gently used diaper and added 3 more. It's always great to start with one on clearance and find out how you like it. These have great fit, room to grow and the insert is very absorbant and thin. I did a blog review of the Bumboo Pocket for Wee Little Changes, I still agree with everythng I said.

Little Owls fitted diapers remain my favorite fitted. I have no idea how Jessica does it but she makes the best diaper. We started with 1 fitted diaper at 5 months old, that diaper still fits Cora to this day, with room to get bigger. That amazes me because it is a sized diaper. It is the most absorbant diaper we own. We now have 3, 2 fitteds and 1 brand new one size fitted. I love them all. If you are going to try a fitted diaper, you have to have a Little Owls.

So, at 10 months old our stash consists of...

3 BabyKicks Bumboo Pockets

3 bumGenius 3.0 Pockets

1 bumGenius 4.0 pocket

1.bumGenius AIO

2 Apple Cheeks pockets

1 Thirsties Duo Pocket

1 Thirsties Duo Wrap

2 Thirsties Fab Fitted

1 BlueBerry PUL cover

2 Kissaluvs fitteds

1 Little Owls wool cover

3 Little Owls fitted diapers

1 Sloomb Fitted

1 Sloomb Wool Longies

4 GroVia AI2

3 GroVia AI1

25 Diapers, that sounds about right. I don't have to do laundry everyday or even every other day, I do just to keep the stinkies away. We still use Rockin Green Soap.  We got a fancy Planet Wise hanging Wet/Dry bag, well worth it's cost.

So, that is the stash update! We love cloth diapering! If you have been on the fence about whether or not to use cloth, come on over to ourside. I promise the grass really is greener over here, because the land underneath is not filled with disposable diapers!

I highly suggest the kissaluvs marvel. I recently bought one of their regular sherpa fitteds cause the last time I had one was hen Eli was a newborn, and I was pretty surprised that it was only 2 layers of fabric, plus maybe one extra layer in the wet zone. That's nothing! The marvels, however, are really awesome, and the even work well overnight (though I need a doubler lately cause Eli has been peeing more than usual). But I love it!

Also, I'm so glad you love your Little Owls!

Nice stash! I haven't had any problems like that with my FB yet, but I'll keep an eye on that elastic. As for the Marvels, I have one. I really like the company philosophy and the fact that they are Made in USA, and they work well, but they don't fit well for us. The insert seems too long and causes a big lump in the bum area.

I'm also selling my BumEssentials. Just not digging the scratchy velcro.

I'm expecting an Ecobumz, 3 GroBaby, a BG 4.0, a new Kawaii, and a tester from a WAHM in the mail. The mailman probably thinks I'm stalking him.

I have been eyeing the Little Owls...I wish I could go shopping! Thanks for the great info.

We've started having leaking with FB as well!
I guess I need to try a Kissaluvs next!
